Do I need the original mail client installed?
No. Email Converter Software reads PST, MBOX, OLM and the rest on its own, so a machine with no Outlook and no Thunderbird can still open and convert their files. That is the usual reason people choose it in the first place.
Does it need an internet connection or a mailbox password?
Neither. Conversion is a disk operation from start to finish. Nothing signs in, nothing uploads and the machine can be offline the whole time.
Does it change my original file?
No. The source is opened read only and the output is written to a folder you pick. Run the same file again next week and it behaves the same way.
Can it convert several files in one go?
Yes. Point it at a folder and every supported file inside is queued together. Files of different types can sit in the same run. The output can be one combined file or one per source.
Which formats can it read and write?
Thirteen go in: PST, OST, MBOX, EML, EMLX, MSG, DBX, OFT, OLM, vCard, Zimbra TGZ, CommuniGate and Maildir. Eight come out: PST, MBOX, EML, MSG, PDF, HTML, CSV and TXT, plus vCard and ICS for contacts and calendar entries.
Can it repair a corrupt PST file?
No. Repair rebuilds a broken file structure, which is a different task from reading a sound file and writing a new one. Repair the file first using our repair PST file without ScanPST, then convert it here.
Will folder structure and attachments survive?
Yes. The folder hierarchy is rebuilt in the output. Attachments, inline images, dates and the To, Cc, Bcc, From and Subject fields all carry across. There is also an option to flatten the hierarchy if a single flat folder suits you better.
Is there a file size limit?
No. A large archive needs disk space for the output and takes longer to write, but nothing stops part way. Speed depends on your own disk rather than on a network connection.
Does it convert contacts and calendars too?
Yes. Whatever the source holds comes through, so contacts, calendars, tasks and notes convert alongside the mail. Contacts can be written as vCard and calendar entries as ICS.
Does it run on Mac or Linux?
No. Email Converter Software is a Windows application only, from Windows 7 through Windows 11 and Windows Server 2008 through 2025. There is no macOS or Linux build, although it does read OLM files written by Outlook for Mac.
What does the free demo include?
Every preview, filter and format is unlocked in the demo. Only the writing is capped, at 10 files, which is enough to see whether the output opens cleanly at the other end.
Can I pull out just the attachments or the email addresses?
Yes. Under Extract there are separate options for attachments, email addresses and phone numbers, so those come out without converting whole messages.
