This is email restore software. It reads a file you already hold and writes it back into a mailbox. Two things it does not do are listed below, so nobody downloads it for the wrong job.

What the email restore tool reads, where it writes and where it stops.

Can it recover emails if I have no backup?

No. The software reads a backup file and writes it into a mailbox. With no file there is nothing to read. Check the trash folder in your webmail first, then any retention or recovery window your provider offers, since those work on the server side where this cannot reach.

Can it repair a corrupt PST file?

No. A damaged file needs a repair tool that rebuilds the structure. This one expects a readable file and restores what is inside it. Our guide to repairing a PST walks through that separately.

Does it change my backup file?

No. The file is opened read only. Nothing is written to it, moved inside it or deleted from it, so you can run the same backup again later or keep it as the archive copy.

Can I restore to a different account than the backup came from?

Yes. You sign in to whichever mailbox should receive the mail. Mail from a closed work address can land in a personal Gmail account. A Thunderbird archive can go into Microsoft 365.

Will it create duplicates in a mailbox that already has some of the mail?

Restore only the folders you actually lost rather than the whole archive. The folder tree carries a checkbox on every branch. Date and keyword filters narrow it further before anything is written.

Does it restore contacts and calendars too?

Yes. Whatever the backup holds comes back, so contacts, calendars, tasks and notes go into the destination account alongside the mail. A vCard file on its own restores as contacts.

Which backup formats can it read?

PST, OST, MBOX, EML, EMLX, MSG, DBX, OFT, OLM, vCard, Maildir, Eudora and Google Takeout. The format is detected from the file, so you do not have to tell it what you are loading.

Does my mail pass through your servers?

No. The software runs on your machine, reads the file from your disk and connects straight to your mail provider. Nothing is stored or relayed by Corbett.

Is there a limit on file size?

No. A large archive takes longer and the destination provider will throttle how fast mail can be written, but nothing stops part way. If the connection drops the run resumes where it stopped.

Does it run on Mac or Linux?

No. This is a Windows application only, from Windows 7 through Windows 11 and Windows Server 2008 through 2025. There is no macOS or Linux build.

Do Gmail, Yahoo and iCloud need an app password?

Yes, wherever two-factor authentication is switched on, which is now the default on those services. Generate an app password in the account security settings and use it in place of the normal password.

What does the free demo include?

It loads any supported backup file, shows the full folder tree and gives you every preview and filter the licensed edition has. The restore itself stops at 10 emails from each folder, which is enough to prove the file is readable.

Do I need Outlook or Thunderbird installed?

No. It reads PST, MBOX and the rest on its own, so a machine with no mail client can still restore a backup.
